Spieth had seemed to be cruising to victory with a five-shot lead before a familiar foe - a par 3 over water – led to a double bogey on the sixth hole, as Johnson closed the deficit with two birdies soon afterwards. It was a ding-dong battle between two of the best players in the game today on the back 9, with Spieth holing a 19 footer on 17 for par looking like the key shot, before DJ holed a clutch 17 footer at the last to bring it to a playoff. What followed was one of the best playoff holes you will ever see from Johnson. Spieth's solid drive down the middle was dwarfed by a 341-yard bomb over water from Johnson, which he followed up with a wedge to four feet and a birdie to win the playoff. Johnson's gutsy sudden-death drive will live long in the memory, and in this case, it was not just 'drive for show'.
